2016 • For French Government
For over 2000 years, the Île de la Cité has been the heart of Paris. Faced with many transformations with the departure of several State institutions (heightened now with the fire of Notre Dame), the French President François Hollande commissioned Dominique Perrault, architect & planner, and Philippe Bélaval, heritage historian, to identify the challenges and opportunities of the island, particularly in terms of culture and tourism. The study proposes a cohesive urban approach to open the island to Parisians and to the world by reconciling economic activity and heritage conservation.

GROUNDSCAPE : DESIGNING THE UNDERGROUND
2013 • For Dominique Perrault Architecture
Initiated by Dominique Perrault, the concept of groundscape, mixing underground and landscape, addresses the architectural gestures and the spatial strategies for the development of the underground. Under-explored, under-considered, and under-valued by architects and by planners, the potential of the underground is multiple and it opens to new frontiers for the development of cities and infrastructures.
